The JSON Tree Viewer transforms any JSON document into a collapsible, navigable tree so you can inspect nested structures without losing your place. Instead of scrolling through hundreds of lines of raw text, you expand only the branches you care about and collapse everything else. For deeply nested objects, large arrays, or payloads you've never seen before, tree view cuts investigation time significantly.
How to use the JSON Tree View
- Paste your JSON into the editor. The tree renders automatically on the right.
- Click any node arrow to expand or collapse that branch. Objects and arrays can be toggled independently.
- Use the search field to jump to a specific key or value — matching nodes expand automatically.
- Click a value to copy it to the clipboard without touching the raw text.
- For editing the structure, switch to the JSON Visual Editor. For a spatial layout of relationships, try the JSON Flow View.

When to use it
Debugging a production API response — when an endpoint returns an unexpected result, tree view lets you scan the entire response structure in seconds and zero in on the field that's wrong.
Onboarding to a new codebase — when you inherit a project and need to understand what a config or event payload looks like, tree view is faster than reading raw JSON for the first time.
Reviewing event stream payloads — analytics and tracking events often have deeply nested context objects. Tree view makes it easy to confirm every expected field is present.
Validating array contents — when an array should contain objects with specific keys, tree view lets you quickly spot items that are missing fields or have unexpected types.

A tree view renders JSON as a collapsible hierarchy — each object and array becomes an expandable node. This lets you navigate large nested documents without scrolling through raw text. You can collapse branches you do not need and focus on the part of the structure that matters.
Use the search feature in JSON Tree View to filter nodes by key or value. Matching nodes expand automatically so you can see their location in the hierarchy. You can also look at the breadcrumb path shown when you select a node to understand exactly where it sits in the structure.
Tree view is primarily for reading and navigating. For editing, use the JSON Visual Editor, which lets you modify values, add keys, and restructure without editing raw JSON text.
When you select any node in JSON Prism's tree view, its JSONPath expression is shown — for example $.users[0].email. You can copy this path directly and use it in JSONPath queries in your code.
